[Sticky] What you should know about Veggie Saunas

29-September 09:44#1 twiceAweek
101 of VEGGIE Saunas

I’m sure some of you know what I’m about to tell you but a lot don’t so read on and please bare with me

The SAUNAS in HK I am referring to are full facility saunas meaning the basic hardware they must have are :
Reception area
Wet area with shower cubicles, hot and cold pools, sauna room, steam room and rest area
Lounge area where free non-alcoholic drinks and food are served – most kitchens serve food similar standard and variety as that of local cafes
Massage rooms – more then 20 rooms with 2 massage beds to a room (required by regulation)
Size of these sauna establishments usually around 15,000 to 30,000 SF

Sauna charges :

Opening time (usually 11 am) till 2 PM – discounted price;
2 PM till 9 or 10PM - regular price;
after 9 or 10 PM - discounted price;
after 1 am till close (usually 6 AM) - more discounted price.
* Time is calculated when one ENTERS the sauna and registers at the reception *
For grade A & B saunas listed below, expect the bill including tips for 2 sessions to be in the region of HK$900 to $1,300 depending on the establishment and time you enter
grade C saunas about 20% - 30% lower

Tipping :

There is a mandatory tip for the locker and pool people which is automatically added to the bill (usually its $20 to $30)
The tip for the masseuse is collected when you pay the bill, they will ask you how much you want to tip and if you indicate anything below the minimum they will ask the manager to discuss with you
Sometimes if you’re a newbie and/or a foreigner to the sauna they will automatically add the tip to the bill which is a con – you should ask them to show you the itemize bill so you know how much they have added as the tip for the masseuse
* For your masseuse, you are not expected to tip, YOU MUST TIP ! *
The sauna establishment only pays the masseuse between $35 to $45 for each session of massage (each session is 45 minutes). On top of that, the masseuse have to pay the establishment the oil they use, their uniform, locker fees and a large deposit to have the privilege of working there. All masseuse works for the tip to make their living and the establishment takes 10% of that tip on top of everything else I just mentioned.
Again I highlight the masseuse depend on the tip to make their living !
The sauna establishment will ask that you tip the masseuse at least $150 per session (on top of the sauna charges) If one finds a masseuse that is good and to their liking they usually tip more
If you intend to do a repeat with the same girl make sure you tip above the minimum, the girl will remember you ! how your next massage goes depends on how you tipped her before
Do not expect anything more then a veggie massage, anything extra is purely a transaction between 2 adults in the massage room but remember some don’t give extras no matter what so do not force the issue
IF you get HE the girl will tell you what tip is expected

General etiquette :

There are no line ups nor any photos of the girls for you to view, don’t be a dipstick and ask !
If you are seeking a great massage, tell the manager in the rest lounge you want a strong or very strong massage, do NOT tell them you want a young and pretty girl
If you ask for a young girl don’t expect any girl to be less then 30’s or more likely 35’s as most younger girls don’t have proper strength through experience
Asking for a medium strength, younger masseuse usually means you get a girl that SHOULD be more willing to ‘play’ rather then giving you a better massage,
but who you get depends on the manager who assigns the girl to you
Do NOT remove your shorts when you enter the massage room or at anytime during the massage, this is frowned upon, the only time you can remove your shorts is when the girl removes it for you
Do NOT agree a tip with the girl (if you get extras) and give a lower amount when settling the bill

would a mod be kind enough to put this thread in the Sauna stickies
The sauna listings thread (in the stickies) should be removed as its totally outdated
many thanks

Thanks for this. I've never tried a local sauna (as opposed to a "spa"). Some questions on how it works:

1. Is there a standard or typical process flow? Like shower-hot pool-steam room-cold pool-sauna-cold pool-massage, or whatever.
2 .What sort of time frame does the typical visit include? Between massage and other infrastructure, it sounds like at least 2 hours.
3. Aside from the massage/tips, is the fee time-based, or can you stay there all day (hypothetically)?

1. Shower however you want
2. Usually payment at the end and depending on how many services you choose 3. No real time limit but I never stayed in one more than overnight

Highly unlikely to get HJ at Sunny Paradise

no preset flow except one should rinse oneself before dipping into the cold or hot pools
For a 2 session massage I normally allocate to spend 4 - 5 hours there including lunch or dinner, if you're there after midnight you can sleep over (unless the place is packed)

Great thread, I would put Oriental SPA as grade A* for the big spenders out there. They have some genuine hotties, 20's..!

Maybe I'm not in the know, but I thought it was pretty much veggie... I need to try harder.

Do any of these places offer payment like credit card? or is everything cash? If I negotiate HJ then that tip is given direct to masseuse or is it again all in the final bill? since the massages are 2 sessions, I basically massage, chill and then massage again and I can take everything at my own leisure and spend like 3 or 4 hours in there right?

All full facility saunas I've listed allows use of all credit cards, the grade A saunas are multi million $ establishments

The tip is given to the cashier when you leave, don't expect to get a HE with every girl you come across !
if you did negotiate the additional tip then you have to tell the cashier you are tipping extra … whatever the amount but make sure you know what the sauna basic 2 session charges are before hand

2 sessions means 90 mins to be done consecutively , these veggie saunas are not like the HJ or FS saunas, you can chill as long as you want before and after, have drinks, eat food watch TV …

Pls report back when you try
